NAATI CCL Scoring Criteria
The NAATI CCL test is marked using a deduction method. This means the test starts from the full score and marks are deducted when errors affect communication. To prepare well, you need to understand not only what to say, but what types of mistakes can cost marks.
Pass score
Each dialogue is worth 45 marks, for a total score of 90. To pass the NAATI CCL test, you need:
- 63 or more overall
- At least 29 marks in each dialogue
This means a high total score is not enough if one dialogue is below the minimum requirement.
Main areas that affect scoring
Accuracy
Accuracy means transferring the speaker’s message correctly. You can lose marks for adding information, leaving out important details, changing meaning, or interpreting indirectly.
Language quality
Your English and other language should be natural, grammatically clear and suitable for the situation. Register matters, especially in formal topics.
Delivery quality
