NAATI CCL Practice Guide

When Will I Get My NAATI CCL Results?

The exam is over, but the anxiety has just begun. Discover exactly how long the official NAATI marking process takes, why it takes so long, and how you will be notified of your final score.

The Official Result Timeline

According to the official National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), candidates can expect to receive their CCL test results within 4 to 8 weeks from the date of their test.

Unlike automated English proficiency tests (like PTE) which can deliver results in a matter of hours via AI scoring, the NAATI CCL is entirely a human-graded examination. The subjective nature of assessing linguistic fluency, meaning transfer, and cultural context requires rigorous human oversight.

Can I Fast-Track My Results?

No. There is absolutely no option to pay an expedited fee or fast-track the marking of your NAATI CCL exam. This is a strict policy to ensure fairness among all candidates, especially those racing against visa expiration dates. You must factor this 4-to-8 week delay into your migration timeline.

Inside the Marking Process

Many candidates grow frustrated waiting up to two months for a 20-minute audio test to be graded. Here is exactly what happens to your recording after you log off Microsoft Teams:

1. Independent Double Marking

Your exam recording is sent to two separate, accredited NAATI examiners. They do not know each other, and they do not know your identity. They independently listen to your entire 20-minute recording and apply deductions based on the official rubric.

2. The Discrepancy Review (Moderation)

Once both examiners have finalized their scores, the results are compared. If Examiner A gave you a 65/90 (Pass), but Examiner B gave you a 58/90 (Fail), a severe discrepancy exists. In this scenario, a third, senior examiner is brought in to adjudicate the recording and determine the final score.

3. Quality Assurance

Before the results are formally issued to your myNAATI portal, they undergo administrative quality assurance to ensure no technical errors occurred during the upload process.

How Will I Get My Results?

When your results are ready, you will receive an automated email notification from NAATI.

The email itself will not contain your score. It will simply instruct you to log into your myNAATI portal. Once logged in, you will be able to download your official result letter as a PDF. This PDF is the official document you will use to claim your 5 PR points in the Department of Home Affairs SkillSelect system.

What If I Fail by 1 Point?

Because the pass mark is exactly 63 out of 90, many candidates receive devastating scores of 62 or 62.5. If this happens to you, you have the option to apply for a Review of Test Results (often called a remark).

  • The Cost: Applying for a remark requires a fee (check the current NAATI fee schedule, typically around $150 - $200).
  • The Timeline: The remarking process takes an additional 4 to 6 weeks.
  • The Reality: Statistically, the success rate of remarks is low. Because your exam was already double-marked (and potentially moderated by a third examiner) before you even saw your score, it is highly unlikely a fourth examiner will find an error in the grading. Usually, it is faster and safer to simply book a new test.
