NAATI CCL Practice Guide

NAATI CCL Repeat Policy

In the NAATI CCL test, candidates may need to repeat a segment if they do not understand it. However, repeats should be used carefully. NAATI candidate instructions state that candidates can repeat one segment per dialogue without penalty.

The one-repeat rule

Repeating more than one segment per dialogue may result in marks being deducted. Repeats can help when you genuinely miss a segment, but relying on repeats can affect timing and confidence. It may also interrupt the natural flow of the interpreted conversation.

How to reduce repeat dependence

The best way to handle repeats is to train your listening and memory so you rarely need them.

Practise short audio segments daily
Improve note-taking for numbers and names
Train yourself to capture meaning, not every word
Practise unfamiliar topics
Review why you needed a repeat
