NAATI CCL Note-Taking

Good note-taking can help you remember key meaning during the NAATI CCL test, but poor note-taking can slow you down. The goal is not to write everything. The goal is to capture enough information to interpret accurately.

What to write down

  • Names
  • Numbers and amounts
  • Dates and times
  • Locations
  • Problems and solutions
  • Cause and effect
  • Conditions, warnings and instructions

What not to do

Do not write full sentences. Do not try to copy every word. If you write too much, you may miss the next part of the segment or lose confidence before speaking.

Useful symbol ideas

Create your own symbols and use them consistently. Here are some examples:

increase
decrease
leads to
?question/problem
$payment/cost
apptappointment
docdocument/doctor depending on context
medmedicine/medical

Practice drill

Listen to a 20–30 second segment. Write only five notes. Then interpret the full meaning. This trains your brain to separate key meaning from unnecessary detail.
